Why You Must Stop Giving Advice And Start Telling Your Journey Stories [Why Is Storytelling So Powerful?]2 min read

Share With Friends On:

Storytelling is so powerful because it discloses the result of taking a piece of advice in a relatable (and applicable) way. It exposes the results of any action or inaction in a way the mind is wired to process and act on.

Advice means nothing if you have no results (I.e. the advice hasn’t been tested and trusted). We naturally pay more attention to results than mere words.

This is why people spend hours watching and listening to successful people on TV and on Social media.

Advising without an accompanying story is just a waste of time and energy.

It’s just human nature. We won’t just listen.

The Bible says…

“Those who are WISE will be DESPISED if they are POOR. What they say will not be appreciated for long.”

– Eccl 9:16 NLT

Your advice is weightier when you have tangible and commensurate results.

Stop giving people advice that you haven’t taken or are not taking.

Nevertheless, nothing stops you from sharing the stories, lessons, and hacks you are picking up as you journey to stardom.

Your stories are testimony that you didn’t cheat the process.

Your stories validate your results.

Your story might just be the encouragement someone needs to keep going, or it could be the compass they lack.

You can even share the story of some other person if you do have one.

Did you know that the entire old testament is the story of the lives of great men from which we can draw lessons for a more fruitful and productive life?

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

– Romans 15:4

This means advice ought to come from experiences

Now,  how do you share stories when you ain’t doing anything?

Remember, Nobody is interested in your failure stories – in your complaints or self-loathing.

A friend of mine told me a few days ago that “Failures tell their stories to fellow failures who are not even interested to listen to them”

Stop advising. Start creating and telling your stories.

Get up and do something…

Get up and get going…

Go Go Go!
