It’s My Birthday, But It’s Also World’s AIDS Day4 min read

It’s 1st of December, and today is the World’s AIDS Day – and kinda my Birthday too. But, let’s focus on AIDS:

You know sex is an important part of our lives, I mean without good sex none of us would have been here today, (and by good sex I mean the type that have you vibrate in ecstasy as you climax and burst with pure pleasure – really, it’s the best feeling in the world, right? ?)

And since we’re talking about sex, it only makes sense that we talk about the dangers of unprotected sex – because as good as it sounds, sex has its dangers. And today, we would be focusing on AIDS in particular

FACTS ABOUT HIV AIDS

Before I start I’ll like to bring to your notice that there are more than 100 thousand cases of HIV/AIDS every year in Nigeria alone, so, you’ll want to pay a little extra attention here

1. HIV Is Not The Same As AIDS

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that leads to a condition known as AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome).

The condition known as AIDS only occurs if the patient starts having certain infections or cancers. In other words, one can have HIV for years without it developing to AIDS (with proper care and treatment of course)

2. HIV CAN BE SUPPRESSED

Early treatment of HIV with ART (antiretroviral therapy) can protect the immune system, which helps reduce the viral load (reduce the amount of the virus in the blood)

But treatments have to be started early (hence, always go for medical check-ups)

3.THERE IS NO VACINE OR CURE FOR HIV

As of the time of this publication, there is currently no cure or vaccine for HIV, this is because HIV is a complicated virus that changes over time

4.YOU (OR YOUR PARTNER) STILL NEED TO WEAR A CONDOM DURING SEX EVEN IF YOU ARE BOTH HIV-POSITIVE

Okay, as pointed out earlier HIV is a very complicated virus, there are different strains (types) of HIV, this means an individual can get infected a second time with a different type of the virus even if they are already infected with HIV. ?

This means one could get infected with an even faster progressing (virulent) version of the virus, or end up with a drug-resistant type of it (and that won’t be pretty)

Besides, HIV isn’t the only sexually transmittable disease, (watch out for other STIs)

Leave this chicken alone

5. EVEN LESBIANS CAN GET HIV

Although rare, the virus can still be transmitted in this conditions

Remember the virus can be transmitted through virginal fluids and menstrual blood

The probability of getting infected increases if the person either has a yeast infection or is on period.

Sex toys can also carry the microscopic particles in the fluids, needles and syringes are to be avoided too

6.CAN MOSQUITOS SPREAD THE VIRUS?

One good news is that mosquitos can’t spread the virus, this is because mosquitos only “suck” your blood, they do not inject you with it.

The only fluids in the body that can transmit the virus are semen, vaginal fluids, anal fluids, breast milk and blood (including menstrual blood). that’s to say you are free to shake hands, hug, and even kiss (I think it’s safer to keep your tongues inside)

7. HIV TESTS ARE VERY RELIABLE AND ACCURATE

HIV tests are really efficient and reliable; it is impossible to know if a partner has the virus unless he or she is first tested.

Newer HIV tests identify the virus itself and a marker on the virus called p24 antigen. This test detects HIV infection quicker and further test can be easily carried out to determine the strain (the type of HIV)

CONCLUSION

As much as we would love to do it like in the porn movies, it is quite dangerous to head out for your sexcapade without protection

NOTE: porn stars have sex with their fellow porn stars. They are all professionals and won’t like to jeopardize their carrier, so they stay clean. However, the people you MIGHT meet when you head out for your sex adventure don’t really have anything on the line, at least they don’t think so yet.

However here is something I want to know, have you had any good sex this year? Reply in the comment section
